Affiliate Programs - Lesson 4

It is possible to make good money from affiliate programs. If you do not have any products or services to sell or if you are just starting out on an e-business venture, affiliate programs can be quite rewarding. Affiliate programs are also called associate programs, reseller programs, commission or pay-per-sale, pay per click and clickthrough programs. There have been several online companies who understand this concept and have made millions from this one technique.

If you were to setup your own affiliate program, you would reward other website owners for referring customers to your website. You would only pay for quality visitors who bought your product or service.

If you were an affiliate for a particular website, you would be assigned a special URL that tracks all the visitors that you send to the website as well as all the sales that are generated from these visitors. All you would need to do is put a small banner advertisement, graphic or textual link to your affiliate's website and earn a referral fee. You may want to promote the affiliate's website, products or services in your newsletters, private emails, newsgroups, magazines etc. No matter which one of these methods creates a sale, you will receive a commission for the sale.

There are a lot of affiliate programs that do not actually pay per-sale. Some affiliate programs actually pay per-lead or per-click.

Pay-per-lead programs will pay you every time a visitor from your website fills out a survey, asks for more information, requests a quote on a product, downloads a trial or demo version of your software etc. You are basically getting money for generating a lead for your affiliate.

Pay-per-click programs are similar to pay-per-lead programs. The difference is that you get paid every time someone clicks through the link from your website to your affiliate's website.

Affiliates can pay in the form of credits towards the purchase of merchandise or in cash. A lot of companies have a minimum "pay-out" balance. You are only paid when the amount of money you will be getting paid for each commission reaches a certain established amount.

Make sure that you look for good and reputable businesses when joining affiliate programs. When you start looking for different affiliate programs, make sure the products you will be referring are of good quality so that you don't lose your credibility. You also need to be sure you are able to track your progress and sales.
